Democratic world confederalism as an alternative to capitalist modernityActivity Date: Tuesday, May 3, 2022 - 11:00 UTCDuration: 240 minBrief Description:
Radical democracy, ecological awareness and women's liberation - three keywords that many people rarely associate with the Middle East region due to its many conflicts. But in northern Syria, also known as Rojava, a social concept is being implemented that is based precisely on these fundamental pillars. The theory behind it is known as Democratic Confederalism and is based on the ideas of Abdullah Öcalan, the founder of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), who has been imprisoned since 1999.
The paradigm of Democratic Modernity, is not a concept that is relevant only to the societies of Kurdistan and the Middle East, but far beyond. The intensity of the crisis of Capitalist Modernity is noticeably increasing for people worldwide and the rejection is growing. The question of alternatives is now being raised and discussed in broad circles. Today, more than ever before, the solution to the most urgent problems of humanity requires the creation of global platforms and connections between democratic forces. With our event we want to give an introduction to the paradigm of the Kurdish Freedom Movement, lessons from the Rojava Revolution and discuss Democratic Confederalism as an alternative to capitalist modernity worldwide.
Let us work together to bring our visions and utopias to life. Another world is not only possible – given the world situation, it is sorely needed. Let us start building our future world together in the present.
