    Durée: 180 min
    Résumé:

This will be a three-hour conversation with social movements from the Global South. 3.4 billion people who live in rural areas need to see well-being and a future-proofed life that is flourishing and fulfilling. The urban demographic transition, which started in the mid 18th century and continued well into the early 21stcentury is showing its limits. With a significant number of informal workers moving between urban, rural and peri-urban areas, it is clear that our futures are interlinked. In rural areas, the overwhelming majorities are not owners of land, or are very marginal farmers. Also linked are issues of indigenous people, whose economic role, autonomy and citizenship remain contested terrains. Social movements, especially the recent farmers movement in India, present new hope. This is an opportunity to create an agenda for the futures we want.
