The Amazon Sacred Headwaters Initiative is led by Amazonian indigenous federations CONFENIAE (Ecuador), AIDESEP (Peru), and COICA (Regional) in partnership with Pachamama Alliance, and Fundación Pachamama.
The Sacred Headwaters region, which encompasses the watersheds and forests at the source of the Amazon River is considered globally significant due to its biological and cultural diversity.
The region spans 35 million hectares in Ecuador and Peru - an area the size of Italy - and is home to over 600 thousand people from 30 indigenous nationalities, some of them uncontacted.
